Honda's New Micro-Sized MC-β Looks Like an Electric Golf Kart

Apparently, automakers are pushing forward plans for diminutive electric city cars that offer drivers an alternative mode of transportation with obvious space-saving and economy gains, some of which are already available, like Renault's Twizy, and others, such as Honda's new MC-β, that are currently under development.

To be revealed at this week's Tokyo Motor Show, Honda describes the MC-β as a "micro-sized short-distance EV commuter".

The Japanese carmaker says it was developed for micro-sized mobility products that are currently being discussed in Japan, as well as in Europe, where it will be classified in the L7 motorcycle category for electric powered models weighing 400 kg (882 pounds) or less sans the battery and with an output of up to 15 kW (20hp).

Built around a motorcycle-style pipe frame body, the single-seater MC-β is just under 2.5 meters long (98 inches) and 1.3 meters (51 inches) wide, with its 11kW motor offering a top speed of 70km/h (44mph) and a driving range of over 80km (50 miles).

Honda said it started field tests in Japan this month.
