This Polish Jaguar XJ Runs on a 1.8-liter Ford Diesel

I don't know how many of you agree, but I find Jaguar's XJ40 series (built from 1986 to 1994) as one of the brand's better styling moments in the segment. Of course, that has nothing to do with what the previous owner of this 1990 Jaguar XJ did to his/her car.

After sticking to the same design recipe for more than four decades (from 1968 to 2009), Jaguar shook things up in 2009 with the launch of the X351-codenamed XJ.

Now, four years later, Jaguar wants to refresh the current generation XJ and keep it relative in a segment that has seen a number of fresh arrivals the past year or so, including the all-new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and the facelifted Audi A8, BMW 7-Series, Lexus LS and Porsche Panamera.

The styling tweaks (at least on this specific prototype) seem to be very mild and concern the smoother-looking front bumper with less contours that gains new trims and re-shaped air-inlets, and the restyled rear bumper. The lights on both ends remain unchanged.

We can't see what's going on inside or under the hood, but expect some minor improvements in both areas, with the subtly refreshed XJ saloon to likely launch sometime next year.

Jaguar Confirms 4-Cylinder Turbo and Supercharged V6 Engines for U.S.

The shift in consumer preferences to less thirsty, lighter and more CO2 efficient powertrains has resulted in Jaguar's response by confirming the availability of its new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and 3.0-liter supercharged V6 gasoline engines for the United States.

When you're sitting behind the wheel of a new Jaguar XJ, it would appear that no rainy day could affect your mood. Well, except for those 6,475 U.S.-spec units manufactured between July 28, 2009 and November 3, 2010, on which the front wiper arms weren't sufficiently torqued during assembly. Consequently, Jaguar has issued a recall for the affected cars, according to a NHTSA press release.

Jaguar Confirms Development of New Entry-Level Sedan and All-Wheel Drive XJ

Jaguar has admitted that it is currently working on a new sedan that will be the entry-level model of the range. Smaller than the XF, the new model is expected to have a starting price of around £28,000 (€31,850/$45,685). According to Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar's global brand director, the sub-£30,000 premium car market is four times larger than that of sedans priced above £30,000 (€34,120), so developing a cheaper, smaller Jaguar makes a solid business case.

Originally this car was a 1993 Jaguar XJ40 with an automatic transmission and a 3.2 L V6. Its exterior has been adorned with the grille, head- and taillights, unique side vents and boot emblem from a ‘70s Volga. It’s not quite in the same league as the BMW 6-series derived Volga V8 Roadster or the Porsche Cayenne-based “Lenin-mobile”, but it’s still an impressive transformation.

Every car enthusiast has their obsessions. For some it's '50s Chevys or '30s Fords; for others it's Chargers or Beamers or just about anything else you can think of. For me, it's Jaguars. Other than the colour, year and what we can derive of the car's condition from looking at the photos, there's really no information on this car. How many miles it's done, what modifications have been made etcetera. All things a potential buyer would want to know. And as a Jaguar aficionado, I know that '70s Jags are bad enough before you start tinkering with them.
