While Chevrolet was releasing the third and in our opinion, less interesting of the…rather tedious video trailers for its upcoming Corvette C7, GM allegedly sent scoop photographer Chris Doane this image from a service manual for the "Front brake cooling deflector kit installation", which he then posted on his Facebook page. The drawings show the front end of the new 2014 Corvette, which features more prominent and larger headlamps than the current model along with a distinct hood scoop(s) and the front fender air outlet.
As many of our readers are probably already aware, Chevrolet is entering next year's NASCAR championship with an entirely new model aptly called the SS, which was previewed in Las Vegas just last month. The Super Sport racer will be unique to the championship as the production-going road car has yet to be revealed and won't even built in the United States; to find it's country of origin you'll have to get an atlas and turn it upside down; yes that's right, it will be built in the backyard that Crocodile Dundee calls home - Australia. Based on the Zeta architecture, the new SS won't be entirely new to the market when it goes on sale next year as a 2014 model. In fact, it's GM's second attempt to get the Holden-based Commodore on US shores - with the last try drying up after the Pontiac division was dissolved. GM realizes that they still have a good product with the Commodore down under, so coinciding with the upcoming Aussie redesign they have given it another chance. This update is expected to bring substantial technological and interior quality advances over the previous G8 / current Commodore.
While enjoying a ride on a twisty Italian road in his Porsche Boxster 981, CarScoop reader Michael, who you may remember from his previous video when he filmed a Mercedes prototype in the Italian Dolomites (see here), stumbled upon a convoy of Chevrolet trucks and crossovers.
Move over Ram and F150; this is the new artillery that GM is bringing to the pickup market. The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is soon to make its official appearance and CarScoop is giving you an early sneak-peak illustration, based on the many prototype models caught on camera. The current Silverado has been battling it out strongly since 2007, only finishing as bridesmaid to Ford's F-150 on the sales charts, which is one thing for certain that GM would love to change. The outgoing model has arguably been wearing the bridesmaid's tag when it comes to styling too; sure, it's reasonably appealing with its modern and rugged clothes, but doesn't push any design envelopes. Being a fresh slate for the 2014 model year, Chevrolet is changing this and gunning Ford, Dodge and Toyota head on in the pickup design stakes. The new all-duty hauler expands on recent GM design themes with it's blunt square-ish and rounded sheet metal pressings. The front is more brash thanks to it's detailed chrome grill (with honeycomb inserts) and headlight surrounds, which incorporate more sophisticated projector headlights and turn signals.
A group of Chevy [Chevrolet if you work for GM] Camaro Convertibles were caught with their tops up about 2 hours north of Toronto in Canada by a member of the Camaro5 forums.
For now, there's not much to say about the Convertible other than it gets a cloth top - most likely electrically operated, and the same re-rated for the 2011MY 312HP 3.6-liter V6 and 426HP 6.2-liter V8 engine options as the coupe variant.
We’re not quite sure what to make of this new Chevrolet prototype that was caught by our scoop photographers on European roads. The test vehicle appears to be a small or compact MPV in a taller, SUV-esque design with short overhangs and an upright fascia reminiscent of the latest Chevy models. Our man with the long-lens told us that the camouflaged prototype was clearly smaller than the Orlando people mover that’s offered in Europe. It could be that Chevrolet is working on a new small crossover model based on an extended version of General Motors’ Gamma II platform. The same architecture underpins the new Chevy Spark and Aveo / Sonic and will also form the base for the future Opel Corsa and its SUV sibling that is currently under development.
All those rumors about Chevrolet readying the Camaro ZL1 for a debut at the Chicago Auto Show turned out to be true as the guys from the Camaro5 forums snapped these pictures of GM's poster signs from the show floor. It won't be long before Chevrolet presentation starts, but you can get an idea of what to expect in the preliminary details posted after the jump.
The much anticipated Camaro Z28 will begin rolling off the production line in January 2012, according to a dealer that spilled the beans over at the Camaro5 forums after attending a National Chevrolet Dealer’s meeting.
We've already shown you video of the 2012 Camaro Z/28 doing its thing on the Nürburgring, and now there are more spy pictures of the facelifted model it could be based on. Other than the appropriately modern-looking LED taillights [voice your thoughts below], the updated version of Chevy's own pony car is believed to also benefit significantly from a yet unseen refreshed interior.
Besides the rear lights and diffuser-mounted reflectors, the major update is a pair of the most obtuse, minivan-ish side mirrors ever (EVER). Hopefully those are just for testing / Euro market purposes, but that's probably not the case.
Other improvements for the 2012 model year should include engine/suspension tweaks as well as more special editions (this competes with the Mustang, after all).
Now that the Z/28 program is back on track, GM has begun to test its Shelby-killer super Camaro at the Nürburgring. You can check out the vid below; it shows the car scooting around the track and rolling around on unsuspecting German roads.
A pair of lightly camouflaged Camaros believed to be prototype versions of the much-delayed super-duper Z28 model were spied among a convoy of pony cars on the streets of Coronado in California by a forum member. Albeit most of the front end of the test cars was covered to keep prying eyes from seeing the details, it's easy to make out the large hood bulge, under which, you should find GM's 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that produces 556HP in the Cadillac CTS-V.
Spy photographers have snagged a lightly camouflaged Camaro that is believed to be the long-rumored Z28 model packing the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine found in the Corvette ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V models. And how do we know this, you may ask? Well, GM's engineers were kind enough to leave a sticker on the prototype's dashboard that read "2012 Chevrolet Camaro, 6.2L SC V8, 6AT". What you see here are official design patent drawings of the all-new 2012 Chevrolet Aveo four-door sedan and five-door hatchback models, filed by General Motors. The next generation of GM's Ford Fiesta rival was teased in concept form with the sporty Aveo RS hatchback study at 2010 Detroit Auto Show in January while shortly after we also got a sneak peak of the sedan variant through some leaked illustrations.
The drawings of the five-door model suggest that the production version follows pretty closely to the RS concept minus of course some snazzy details like the shaved door handles, big alloy wheels and the more pronounced side sills that made the concept model really stand out.
This just in from the patent office; General Motors has filed these drawings of an unnamed Chevrolet single-cab pickup truck with a Cruze-like split-grille. We're not sure what to make of it since there's no additional information on the filing, but there's a chance it might be a successor to the South American market Chevrolet S10 compact pickup truck.
Another -though less likely- guess is that it's a replacement for the North American Chevrolet Colorado. Of course, we could be wrong in both cases. Either way, follow the break to check out the rest of the drawings and tell us what you think in the comments section.
