Japanese Team Drives Kei EV Van for 807 Miles on One Charge Setting World Record

While cramming many batteries into the back of a regular vehicle and turning it into a long-range electric vehicle seems like a straightforward enough thing to do, we have no doubt that many try it, but we only end up hearing about a small percentage of them – the ones who actually achieve noteworthy results.
With a 64 year-old Dakar rally winner on board, the first one in Japan's history, a local team has officially made itself worthy of media attention, after having covered 1,300 km (807 miles) aboard a Suzuki Every kei van, that was probably filled full of batteries in the back, and only charging it up once beforehand.
Apparently, Suzuki did sell an electric version of the Every, but its quoted range was nowhere near what was achieved today, hinting at extensive yet unspecified modifications done to it for the staged drive around the village of Ogata, in the Akita Prefecture.
Regardless, the attempt dwarfed the previous one by almost 300 km (186 miles) and landed the participants a chance at a Guinness world record. However, it probably won't last long, and we’re now looking forward to seeing the next, better vehicle, the one that will break the 2,000 km (1,242 mile) barrier.

Meet Suzuki's Crossover Concepts from the Tokyo Motor Show

Suzuki’s concept vehicles at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show are based on the company’s slogan of “Small Cars for a Big Future” and point the way for Suzuki’s future, both in terms of design and actual products.
Judging from the fact that all concepts are crossovers, Suzuki may bring many production vehicles of this type in the future.
The Crosshiker (cherry red colored) is a compact, three-door crossover that is an evolution of the 2011 Suzuki Regina study. It weighs 810kg (1,786lbs) and is powered by a newly developed 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine.
The X-Lander (white-colored model) is a four-wheel drive hybrid vehicle that Suzuki says is aimed for use in the city but can handle occasional off-road escapades as well. Based on the Jimny 4x4, the X-Lander is powered by a 1.3-liter gasoline engine mated to a newly developed automatically controlled manual transmission and an electric motor. The compact lightweight hybrid system is built onto a 4WD system.
The two-tone orange-and-white painted Hustler is a tall city car that combines styling touches from crossovers, like the dark grey cladding on the bumpers and wheel arches, with a roomy interior. The study is aimed at people who love the nature, the outdoors and sports.
Derived from the Hustler, the Hustler Coupe (red and white) is actually a five-door vehicle featuring hidden rear door handles and an inclined roofline.
Finally, the iV-4 concept (teal colored model) is a compact SUV that premiered at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and is now debuting in Japan as well.
Suzuki’s booth also includes production models like the Solio, Swift and Swift Sport compact cars, as well as Wagon R, Wagon R Stingray, MR Wagon Wit and Spacia minicars.
There’s also the ET4D Concept, an electro senior vehicle equipped with driver-assist functions for more ease of use, convenience, and safety.

Too Little, Too Late: Suzuki to Import 2,500 Cars from Japan to Meet Increased Demand in the U.S.

In November, Suzuki's automotive division in announced that it would be shutting down its operations in the United States. On Thursday, December 20, American Suzuki Motor Corp successfully filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, in Santa Ana, California, winning permission to close its automotive operations, while re-organizing its motorcycle and boat businesses.
But that's not all that went down in the court as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Scott Clarkson also approved Suzuki's request to borrow $50 million to import extra cars from Japan. Confused? Well, allow us to explain.

Suzuki Unwraps Refreshed Grand Vitara for the UK Market

Suzuki may have pulled the plug on its automotive operations in North America, but in Europe, it's still alive (well, at least for now), thank you very much.
Following the release of the updated 2013 Jimny last month, Suzuki has now given a mild facelift to its aging Grand Vitara that goes on sale in the United Kingdom this month as a 2013 model with prices starting from £15,995 for SZ3 1.6 litre 3 door version.

Suzuki Pulling Out of the American Car Market, will Focus on Motorcycles and Marine Divisions

We knew that Suzuki's automotive division was having problems in the United States, but we never imagined that the Japanese carmaker would go as far as to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and completely exit the automobile market in the country (this decision does not affect its global automotive operations).
American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC), which is the exclusive distributor in the continental United States of Suzuki Motor Corporation automobiles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and marine outboard engines, made the announcement on Monday night, citing several reasons

Suzuki Affords us a Peek Into its Future with New S-Cross Concept, Enters Production in 2013

The Suzuki stand at the Paris Salon showcased a new concept vehicle named the S-Cross, and mind you, this isn't just another one of those show-grabbers as it hints at a production model that will go on sale sooner than you think.
"The new crossover will be the first in an ambitious programme of annual European model launches, which Suzuki will be starting in 2013," the Japanese carmaker said in a statement.
