European Leaf Owners Travel More Than Those of Conventionally Powered Cars

One of the main issues with all-electric vehicles is their limited range, dictated by the limitations in battery capacity. Surprisingly, though, Nissan claims that European drivers of its Leaf EV cover more kilometers per year than the average owner of a gas or diesel powered car.

Nissan to Roadster for the Japanese Market

Nissan has announced it will stop production of the Fairlady Z Roadster (sold as the 370Z Roadster outside Japan) for the Japanese market on September 30, 2014. Introduced in October 2009 in the country, the open-top version of the 370Z coupe wasn’t really a hit among consumers, with local sales totaling 798 units as of April 2014.

Nissan's official release on the new European market Pulsar today omitted the interior pictures of the car, but Carscoops reader Carson Tse pointed us to the right direction, and well, here we are.

Nissan Preparing Qashqai Nismo with More Than 200 Horses

Following the hot Juke Nismo RS, Nissan’s high-performance division will work its magic on the recently-unveiledQashqai crossover as well. According to a report from CAR, the Qashqai Nismo will feature more than 200 horsepower and will be revealed as early as winter 2014.

The report quotes Andy Palmer, Nissan global product chief, as saying that the Qashqai Nismo will be more powerful than the Juke Nismo. “I wouldn't just give it the engine from Juke. It’d have more power than that,” Palmer told the British publication. He added that a solution would be to adopt the uprated 1.6-liter engine from the Juke Nismo RS.

However, the Qashqai would need more than that to be a Nismo. “I’m adamant that Nismo should be about more than just more power. I want us to focus on ride and handling, making cars that aren’t just faster, but also feel obviously more fun to drive,” Palmer said.

Just like other Nismo models, the heated up Qashqai should feature a bodykit with red accents, sporty contact points inside, and will be focused on ride and handling rather than sheer power.

No pricing details were offered, but the Qashqai Nismo is likely to be offered in a single-spec including all necessary features. CAR estimates the sporty crossover should be priced at just under £30,000 (€35,875) in the UK, given that the flagship new Qashqai costs £27,845 - and that there’s a £1,900 gap between a range-topping Juke and its Nismo derivative.

Study Shows Nissan Leaf Drivers Cover Less Electric Miles Than Chevy Volt Owners

The Nissan Leaf is an all-electric car that in the US, offers a claimed 76 miles or 121 km of autonomy, whereas the range-extender Chevrolet Volt promises only 38 miles or 61 km before the petrol engine kicks in to recharge the batteries.

However, while looking at those figures alone would have you thinking that it would be the owners of the purely electric model covering most no-emissions miles, a recent study suggests the exact opposite.

The EV Project Vehicle Summary Report, issued by the US Department of Energy (DoE), collected data between the months of April and June this year and compiled them for some surprising results.

It revealed that in spite of having more battery on board to take them further, Nissan Leaf drivers actually covered fewer miles than Volt owners. They back this up with more numbers: 629 miles per month for the former, and 759 for the latter.

A number of factors could be affecting these readings, though, so they’re not necessarily accurate without question, yet they do offer an interesting suggestion that Bob Lutz may have actually had a point about the Chevy using the gasoline engine only when needed; if owners operate it properly (i.e. keep the battery charged at all times via socket and plug) the 1.4-liter petrol engine is rarely used.

In fact, it was found that the 759 aforementioned miles of range actually constituted around 75 percent of the total number of miles driven (1,012 of them on average, to be precise).

Ballsy Nissan 370Z Fan Announces Sale of Own Testicle to Afford Dream Car…

No, we’re not jesting, it’s for real, apparently… Middle-aged Mark Parisi has announced on television that he is willing to have one of his testes removed as part of a medical trial and for this he will be remunerated with the distinctly average sum of $35,000, which is apparently the standard rate ‘nads go for these days…

He also wants sports car and is apparently going to direct his earnings towards buying a Nissan 370Z, a modest yet realistic choice for his budget – he’ll even be able to add some options, at it starts at $29,900.

I’m curious how Mr/2 Parisi will ever be able to start a serious conversation with another human being or be taken seriously ever again. This kind of decision is clearly not taken on a clear head, and anybody in their right mind or who still has a bit of compassion for humans would try talking him out of it.

It would have been understandable had the stakes for getting the money been higher (i.e. family member needed the cash for life-saving surgery), but as is it’s ridiculous and disgusting on many levels; it’s not even amusing.

What is the world coming to? No, really?

The moment when Mr. Parisi says “I do” was captured on video as part of the CBS show “The Doctors.” Hopefully, it’s all just for ratings, and they’re giving him the cash just to say these things – even that would be more acceptable.

New 1996 Nissan 300ZX with Only 145 Miles Could be Yours for $85,987

You can add the Z32 Nissan 300ZX to the list of cars that I have had the chance to drive and wouldn't mind owning one day, just as long as I find the right one at the right price, of course.

The right one would be a late model year Turbo with a 300bhp 3.0-liter V6 featuring twin Garrett turbochargers and dual intercoolers, but I would settle with the regular 222bhp 3.0-liter V6 model, as long as it came with a stick shift, which happens to be the case of our latest find.

Even better, it's virtually brand new and unused with only 145 miles (233 kilometers) on the odometer.

However, there's one huge problem; the Greensboro Nissan dealer's asking price of $85,987, which is absurdly high for this car. Don't forget that we are talking about a base version of a Japanese coupe of which more than 160,000 examples were built during its lifespan (1989–2000), so it's neither rare nor that desirable.

We had posted a story on a black-on-black 1996 300ZX T-Top Coupe with 144 miles that was listed for sale on eBay this past April, but it had chrome rims, while this one sports satin-finish wheels – we don't know for sure if it's the same car as the ad has since been removed.
