Camaro Ultimate 67 Concept Goes Back and Forth Into the Future

Modernizing classic cars is nothing new in the tuning industry, but the creative minds at Ultimate Auto, whom you may remember from last year's Dodge Challenger SRT-8 Widebody tune, went the whole nine yards with the 2013 SEMA Show offering, aptly named "Ultimate 67".

And yes, it's based on a first generation 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, but the similarities might as well end there as Ultimate Auto, with the support of a number of aftermarket companies, turned the classic muscle car inside out.

There's a host of exterior modifications such as the hand fabricated, widened rear fenders, sectioned and recessed bumpers, a modern front valance with LED headlamps, custom grille, carbon fiber spoilers, aprons and skirts, custom Borla exhaust pipes and LED tail lamps.

The body itself is painted in a unique BASF R-M Carizzma “Ruthless Red” finish and comes with hand laid carbon fiber accents, while the car rides on bespoke Vellano VKS wheels size 20-inches at the front and 21-inches at the back, wrapped in Pirelli’s 265/30-20 and 355/25-21 P-Zero ultra-high performance tires respectively.

The interior melds components from the 2013 Camaro with hand fabricated composite panels wrapped in Italian leather, and also features a high-end audio system.

At the heart of the tune and under the futuristic engine compartment cover lies a supercharged GM Performance LS9 V8 paired to a Tremec T-56 transmission.

A Little Overdone, You Say? Camaro SSL 727 Speedster Concept

Let's be honest now; if you're looking for subtle tunes, then you should probably stay as far away from any aftermarket show and especially Las Vegas and SEMA, which is a Mecca for extreme tuning, as humanly possible.

This 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Coupe-based project pretty much sums up what takes place in Vegas every year in November.

It's the work of The Custom Shop in Flanagan, Illinois and it's named the SSL 727 Camaro.

After chopping the roof off the coupe and giving it a much wider speedster-style body with a custom paintjob and graphics, 22-inch Forgeline ZX3P wheels and many other bespoke cues, the tuner swapped the stock engine for a $17,500 Procharged LSX376, which is a 376 cubic inch (6.2-liter) supercharged V8 good for at least 630 ponies.

Chevrolet Dresses 2014 Camaro Facelift in Drags

Making its first public appearance today at the SEMA aftermarket show is the revised, 2014 edition of Chevrolet's COPO Camaro racer for the drag strip.

This the third year that GM is offering the COPO Camaro program and as with the previous two editions, only 69 race cars will be built for NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock competition.

Customers will be able to choose from four different V8 powerplants, including a revised version of the naturally aspirated 427 cubic-inch (7.0-liters) unit, a 350 cubic-inch (5.7-liters) engine with a 2.9L Whipple screw-type supercharger, and the less dramatic, naturally aspirated 350 and 396 cubic-inch (6.5-liters) mills. Those who can afford it can also purchase all four engines, each serialized to match the car.

Besides the new front and rear ends, the 2014 model also includes new racing seats, updated graphics and a new, available wheel design.

All models come fitted with an NHRA-approved roll cage and other safety equipment, along with racing chassis and suspension components such as a unique solid rear axle system in place of a regular-production Camaro’s independent rear axle.

“The COPO is helping sportsman racers around the country put the Chevrolet bowtie in the winner’s circle and the 2014 cars will be even more competitive with the new engines,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports. “But the only way to get one of the new race cars is get your name on the COPO mailing list at chevroletperformance.com.”

We should note that the car pictured here with the serial number 1 is the only 2014 Camaro COPO to be painted in an Ice Blue Metallic shade and it will be auctioned off by Chevrolet Performance at Barrett-Jackson’s annual January event in Scottsdale, Arizona, with all proceeds to benefit the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.

GM to Move Production of Next Camaro from Canada Back to the U.S., CAW Not Happy…

The next iteration of the Chevrolet Camaro won't be built in Canada, as is the case with the current model, but at GM's Lansing Grand River (LGR) Assembly Plant in Lansing, Michigan.
General Motors made the announcement today citing "lower capital investment and improved production efficiencies" as the key factors in its decision to shift production of the car back to the States.

Chevrolet Goes Big for Super Bowl with Five New Ads

GM's Chevrolet division will have a huge presence at this year's Super Bowl game as it plans to air no less than five commercials focusing on the Camaro, the Sonic and the Volt.
These include the "Needing Getting" music video for the Sonic from the band OK Go that will air during the pregame program, the "Aliens" spot showcasing the Volt, the "Chevy Happy Grand" with the Camaro Convertible, the "Sonic Anthem" that chronicles the sub-compact's stunts, and the "Joy", again with the Sonic.

Road & Track Pits the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 against the 2013 Nissan GT-R

They may be different as night and day in most aspects, but we shouldn't forget that both the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the latest 2013 Nissan GT-R are aimed at the sports car enthusiast.
Nevertheless, we do find the pairing from Road & Track for its latest test a tad odd for one specific reason: pricing.
You see, Camaro ZL1 with its 580HP 6.2L supercharged V8 will retail for $54,995 (€41,800) when it arrives in dealerships this spring, whereas the 2013 edition of the 545HP Nissan GT-R starts from $96,820 (€73,500) not including destination and handling fees. This means there's more $40,000 difference between the two cars.

2011 Chevy Camaro Convertibles Spied with Top Up in Canada

A group of Chevy [Chevrolet if you work for GM] Camaro Convertibles were caught with their tops up about 2 hours north of Toronto in Canada by a member of the Camaro5 forums.

For now, there's not much to say about the Convertible other than it gets a cloth top - most likely electrically operated, and the same re-rated for the 2011MY 312HP 3.6-liter V6 and 426HP 6.2-liter V8 engine options as the coupe variant.
