Ferrari Spied Testing 458 Prototype, Could be Working on Redesign or Replacement

It may look and perform as fresh as it did when it was launched back in 2009, fending off rivals like the McLaren MP4/650S, but the Ferrari 458 has turned five this year and the Italian carmaker isn't a proponent of keeping a model dragging on for years on end.

Ferrari Customer Orders One-Off 458 Italia Dedicated to Niki Lauda

The timing couldn’t have been better: just weeks after the premiere of the Rush” movie that depicts the rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt during the 1976 Formula One season, Ferrari has revealed a very special 458 Italia.

A customer of Ferrari’s Tailor Made personalization program decided to customize his new 458 Italia in the livery that featured on the Maranello F1 cars back in the mid-Seventies, when the Scuderia took three consecutive Constructors’ titles and two Drivers’ – both of them thanks to the very determined Niki Lauda.

The car features a red paint with a white roof that includes the Italian flag going longitudinally across it. The gold rims add to the 458 Italia’s special feel, as do the white painted door sills and front deflectors.

The car was prepared with this exclusive design by the Commercial Department at Ferrari as part of the Tailor Made personalization program, with the collaboration of a personal designer from the Maranello Style Centre.

The interior features the same motif of the Italian flag, which can be seen on the seats and central tunnel. The racing look is underlined by the sports seats with red motif stitching, the dashboard, instrument panel and the steering wheel with LEDs, as well as the F1 type gear shifts.

Ferrari says the mysterious owner of this 458 Italia (which remains standard in terms of performance) wanted to make it unique by “paying tribute to one of the happiest and most productive eras in the history of the Scuderia.” What do you think of it?

Racing One Tunes Ferrari 458 Challenge Track Racer

Just like apps and phones, there is a tuning application for just about every car in this world, even for Ferrari's menacing 458 Challenge racecar, courtesy of Germany's Racing One motorsports tuner.

If you're lucky enough to own 458 Challenge, Racing One can help you out to improve the Ferrari's 4.5-liter V8 engine lifting output from 562hp (570PS) to 612hp (620PS) before it turns to the chassis and the braking system and suspension components.

The team over at Racing One has also developed an aerodynamics package for the Italian mid-engine supercar with added bits such as the front lip spoiler and canards. You can get a better look at the car in the photo gallery that follows the jump.

Ferrari 458 Speciale Review Says it Lives up to the Hype

In spite of its silly name that almost beats LaFerrari, the Ferrari 458 Speciale is not a supercar that should be taken lightly, at least not according to its first review, the one done by Autocar’s Steve Sutcliffe. He spends some time with the car on both road and track and concludes that it’s better than the regular 458 in every way and quote, “will run rings around it.”

As usual, when it’s an exotic supercar we’re talking about, the many little performance enhancing changes that engineers think up really do seem to work; Sutcliffe appreciates the extra power, 90kg (198lbs) weight saving and excellent brakes that are reportedly the same as on the hybrid flagship.

It looks like a real hoot to chuck around, a trait we knew its less powerful and less special standard brother also possessed, but in this case, all the mods should bring that out even more so. All I can think about, though, is how they extracted 600-ish horsepower from a 4.5-liter V8, by adopting a crazy 14:1 compression ratio, while still keeping it civilized and clean enough for use on public roads.

Gold Diggers Social Experiment Redux, This Time with a Ferrari 458 Spider

Say want you want about the ethics in question or even the authenticity of the gold digger prank with the Lamborghini Gallardo roadster (no need to panic if you missed it, just watch it here), but after nearly 28 million views and possibly a check from Adsense, the experiment seems to have been a success from a viral and financial standpoint.

So much so, that it has already found at least one imitator in the guise of the crew from TrueStoryASA, who performed a similar prank of trying to pick up ladies on the street with a Ferrari 458 Spider.

The young team of pranksters stated: "We went out with a 2013 Red Ferrari Italia 458 to go on a social experiment and see if it can pick up ladies no matter how you look and this is how it went.:)"

Staged or not, if you haven't done so already, put your pennies away and click play on the video below.

What an Angry Bieber: The Bieb Stops Ferrari 458 in the Middle of LA Road to Confront Paparazzi

It's not only young, and in some rarer cases, much, much older girls (see Jenny McCarthy) that have a sensation with Justin Bieber, as the same can be said for certain grown men, albeit for altogether different reasons.
While driving his white-tastic Ferrari 458 Italia on a Los Angeles freeway, Bieber observed a paparazzi trying to catch up to him.
Further down the road, the photographer approached the Canadian-born singer and told him, "You're driving pretty crazy bro, I think you should slow down a little, don't you think?", which ultimately pissed off Bieber, who then stopped his car in the traffic to confront the chitty-chatty stalker holding the camera.

Ferrari Spider Design Study Proposes a More Organic Styling

Ferraris have always been a favorite subject among aspiring designers who wish to offer their own take on what a supercar from Maranello should look like.
Enter the virtual world of Aldo Schurmann, who you may remember from some of his previous design studies hosted on CarScoop, including the BMW X Roadster and the Audi RS Roadster concepts.

Ferrari Debuts 458 Challenge Track Racer

The new 458 Challenge that is destined to race in the onemake 2011 Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli series was revealed today during an annual dealer meeting in Maranello, Italy. Based off the road-going 458 Italia, the Challenge has received a number of competition-spec modifications to adapt it for use on the track.

While the direct injection 4.5-liter V8 with an output of 570-horsepower at 9,000 rpm remains stock, Ferrari's engineers went ahead and made changes to the gear ratios and calibration of the dual-clutch F1 gearbox to improve torque at lower revs.

Ouch... Ferrari 458 Italia Lights Up in Paris

The owner of this Ferrari 458 Italia was in for a nasty surprise when his 570-horsepower Italian supercar started sending smoke signals from the engine compartment while he was driving on the streets of Paris. The cause of the fire remains a mystery but you can see the results in the photo gallery that was posted by a member of the Autogespot forums after the break.

D'oh! Ferrari 458 Italia Driver Starts Drag Race with Dodge Viper in…Reverse!

Before you watch the following video, take a minute to ponder this: You are sitting behind the steering wheel of an exotic, brand new Italian supercar, getting ready to drag race a V10-powered Dodge Viper on the quarter mile strip in front of a crowd of 100, or perhaps even more people. But when the race begins you start rolling backwards…
Oh yes, that’s right; the owner of the Ferrari 458 Italia that you’re about to see in the clip and who was pitted against a Dodge Viper at the ICAR motorsports complex situated just outside of Montreal in Canada, paddle shifted his car’s dual clutch auto transmission into reverse!

Videos: Ferrari 458 Italia Crashes, Tractor Comes to the Rescue

The bashed up 599 GTO we showed you yesterday wasn’t the only Ferrari to bite the dust at this past weekend's Trofeo Ferrari Club Italia event at the Vallelunga racetrack near Rome.
The same fate awaited this red 458 Italia when its driver apparently lost control of the exotic supercar in a corner sending it straight onto the protective barriers. In a somewhat unfitting end for the Ferrari, a tractor had to be called in to carry away the car. Watch the incident unfold in the video after the jump.

Video: Fifth Gear Pits McLaren MP4-12C against Ferrari 458 Italia

The 458 Italia, Ferrari's V8 supercar, is the default choice in its category. Sexy, with a fabulous design and the latest in automotive technology, it is a pure driver’s car to be enjoyed by anyone who can afford it.
Yet McLaren plans to spoil Ferrari’s party claiming that its own brand-new supercar, the MP4-12C, can beat it. On paper, little separates them. But the question for car fanatics remains: which one is better?
To find out, Channel 5's Fifth Gear presenters Tiff Needell and Jason Plato decided to pit the Ferrari against its new challenger from Britain.

Aussie Supercar Buyers Paying More than Anyone

In today’s economy, AU$1.0 will get you US$1.06, but it seems Australia’s overseas automakers have yet to acknowledge this. A Lamborghini Aventador, for example, costs a hefty AU$754,600 – or more than twice the price you would pay for one in the U.S. of A. And its 51% pricier than a V12 powered Lamborghini Diablo was ten years ago. This was tolerable when the Aussie dollar was worth 64 U.S. cents a few years ago, but those days are over.
While TV’s, computers and mobile phones have all become more affordable, supercars have not. It’s so bad that one prospective Lamborghini buyer, businessman Ra Hazouri, has flat out refused to pay.

Too Much? Graf Weckerle-Tuned Ferrari 458 Italia

It seems that there is a tune for just about everyone and everything these days, from subtle to extreme, and all points in between. We do not know where exactly this Ferrari 458 Italia from German tuning firm Graf Weckerle fits in that spectrum, but those odd-looking alloy wheels are sure to catch the attention of every passerby.

Want a Ferrari 458? Why Not Take Two?

In Australia and indeed the world, Ferrari waiting lists are notoriously long. At one point the average wait time for a Ferrari 575M Maranello was as much as three years, as demand rapidly stripped out the brand’s relatively small production capacity. Whatever is a cashed up Ferrarista to do?
Well, you could just buy whatever’s available and drive that until your hot pink Ferrari 458 with the diamante-encrusted wheel arches and baby seal leather interior arrives. I mean, who cares about depreciation when you can lay down half a million on a factory fresh Ferrari? You’d be surprised how many Ferrari customers in Australia are doing this exact thing.

Ferrari Explains to 458 Italia Drivers what to do with all those Switches and Controls

When
Ferrari released the 458 Italia back in 2009, the Italian supercar surprised the world not only with its performance (after all, it's expected from a new Ferrari to set the bar high), but with its high-tech gadgetry as well.
Using Formula 1 expertise, Ferrari put almost all of the car's controls on the steering wheel, including the indicator switches, windshield wipers, long beam, horn, engine start button, Manettino switch, suspension de-coupling, gearshift paddles, audio volume and track selection system.

Ferrari 458 Black Carbon Edition by Anderson Germany Goes to the Dark Side

Challenging the notion that a true Ferrari has to be red, Anderson Germany has whipped up a murdered out 458 Italia with both styling and mechanical upgrades. Starting with the visible modifications, Anderson Germany's Ferrari 458 is finished in a black color and features a carbon fiber package that includes a pair of vents on the front hood, spoiler lips, rear diffuser and exterior mirrors. The German tuner also tinted the Italian supercar’s windows, headlamps and taillights.
