Can You Believe that this Subaru Driver Escaped from the Cops?

It could very well be a scene from the Grand Theft Auto gaming series, but this happened in real life in Russia, and as crazy as it may sound after looking at the dark grey Subaru Forester surrounded by cars and cops in the above print-screen, the driver actually managed to get briefly away!

Silly Cops Think They're Immune to Traction Loss on Ice

A couple of young men were having a blast from the comfort, warmth and safety of their apartment looking over a road, as they were filming the ice-packed misfortunes of about half a dozen drivers, possibly, but not surely in Russia.

BMW Driver Won't Take Stop for an Answer from Russian Traffic Cop

A bizarre incident from Russia (yes, we know, what else is new…) that was partially caught on film is raising age-old questions about the way certain drivers behave on the road as well as their shady connections with law enforcement.

On November 7, traffic officer Andrew Yakimin attempted to stop a Bungle-butt BMW 7-Series with foreign plates because it had blacked out windows, which is illegal, in the city of Krasnodar in western Russia, but the driver refused to pull over.

Yakimin described the incident thusly to local new station Yugopilos:

"I placed a rod on the car and demanded that the driver stop," said Yakimin. "However, the driver failed to comply and continued to move. Since there was a traffic jam, I caught up with the car on foot and knocked on the window by hand, because I thought that the driver might have not seen my gesture to stop due to the tinted windows".

However, the driver of the foreign car the rolled down his window and cussed at the officer.

"I tried to reach for the ignition key to stop his attempt to leave," said Yakimin. – "The driver stepped on the accelerator pedal, but I grabbed the car with both hands and began to rest on the asphalt and screaming at him to stop, then he dragged me around 10-20 meters. At that moment, when I held the car door, he hit my hands and pushed me away. The car was going around 40 km/h. Then the driver stopped abruptly and I was thrown from the car," continued Yakimin.

The driver then jumped out of the BMW and attacked the officer.

"Our battle lasted about 20-30 seconds. I managed to get my gun," said Yakimin. – "The driver got into the car, moved sharply and hit me with the front part of the machine."

From what we understand, this is the scene that a pedestrian caught on his or her phone camera and which you can see in the video below.

Even though the BMW driver managed to get away at that point, with the help of a colleague, the dedicated Russian officer was able to apprehend the man and bring him to the police station. But guess what happened next? The man somehow escaped the police station and is now at large…

Cops Shoot at Minivan Mom with Five Kids Who Was Running Away from a Speeding Ticket

There is a fine line between enforcing the law and making ill use the power that you are bestowed with as a noble and honorable police officer. You are given a uniform, badge and gun in order to protect citizens, their rights and their safety, but as we’ve seen numerous times before, this line of work can bring out the worst in people, as was the case with this shocking incident from outside of Taos, New Mexico, involving a mother, Oriana Ferrell, and the minivan she used to ferry her five kids inside.

As you’ll notice in the dash cam video posted below, which is from October 28, she is pulled over, but acts erratically and enters an argument with the police officer who informs her that the reason for her pulling over was a speed limit infraction noted a few miles back, when she was reportedly doing 71 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Long story short, she tries to make a break for it as the officer returns to the squad car, but is then pulled over again and convinced at taserpoint to get out of the car. However, her eldest son of 14 years-old also gets out and tries to attract the cop's attention in his direction, which he does, allowing his mom to get back into the driver’s seat.

As she does that, he too gets back in the minivan that then speeds off, while a different officer pumps rounds into the back of the people mover for good measure. Why does he do that knowingly? He must not really like kids or probably felt threatened by the 14 year-old and his cap that was not perfectly lined up.

Ed. note [John Halas]: While I certainly agree with Andrei that the cops should have never used ammunition on a car packed with kids (that's unacceptable), I must add that, in my opinion, the mother acted in an irresponsible way as well. For one, she should have never be going so fast (given what the officer reported was true) with five kids inside, but more importantly, she should have never placed her children in such a dangerous predicament in the first place by driving away not once, but twice from the cops. What do you think?

Montgomery Cop on a Harley Davidson Filmed Drag Racing a Civilian [Updated]

Yes, yes, we know; police officers should always uphold the law no matter what, but they're also human beings and we can't help ourselves from finding the following cop's response to a civilian calling him to a harmless street drag race, how can we say it; very human…

Even though no harm was done, the law is the law, and after the motorcycle civilian who asked the unidentified cop to race him at the lights, Lawrence Lee Spillers, shared the footage from his helmet camera on YouTube, the Montgomery (Alabama) Police Department learned about it and launched an investigation.

The department’s police chief, Kevin Murphy, told KLTV news that the officer seen in the video shot this past Sunday has since decided to resign his position from the force.

“When a member of the Montgomery Police Department fails to adhere to our core values of honor, duty and loyalty, it is my duty to ensure they will not represent the MPD, or serve the citizens of Montgomery any further,” said Murphy. “The officer in question no longer wears the badge of the Montgomery Police Department.”

The motorcycle cop, who does not want to be named, issued the following statement:

"I don't have any hard feelings against the department. All my life and throughout my career I have tried to be humble and reserved, but I'm not perfect. If I could start over I would have never done what I did. I appreciate everyone's support. I can't believe how everything has turned around for me. I guess it's the will of God."

As for the other protagonist, Lawrence Lee Spillers Spillers, he stated:

"We posted [the video] thinking, you know, it was something fun, something you don't run across every day and that's why we did it. Our intentions were to never get the cop in trouble, and we definitely didn't think he would lose his job."

Updated: As pointed out by reader Tinky-Winky in the comments, WSFA reported that the "the Montgomery Police Department is confirming that the motorcycle officer who was captured on video drag racing with a private citizen will get his job back"

Meth Addict Drags Trooper, Gets Shot and Sentenced to 30 Years in Jail

A Clay County Judge showed no mercy to a troubled Kansas City driver high on meth, who last July, dragged a Missouri state trooper alongside his car for a few hundred feet before the officer shot him twice, sentencing him to 30 years in prison.

Footage sourced from Missouri Highway Patrol Corporal Cody Dunfee's patrol car dashcam that was released by the Clay County Prosecutors Office shows how it all went down when the cop pulled over Alan Hampton, initially for a speeding violation, according to The Kansas City Star.

"As I approached the car, I noticed what appeared to be a black square object in his waistband," Dunfee said. "I kind of figured that he was trying to hide something in the car. I didn't know what it was at the time."

Seconds later, Hampton took off, but Dunfee held onto the car and managed to pull and fire his gun twice, hitting the driver in his hand and leg, forcing him to stop, at which point, we hear him in the video yelling, “You shot me? You shot me! … Oh my God.”

"It happened so quick and to this day, I still don't know why I more or less dove into that car," Dunfee said.

It was found later that Hampton had a gun in his car. According to reports, Hampton has been in trouble with the law for more than 20 years.

Volvo's Updated 2014 XC70 D5 AWD Police Car Gets a Thumbs Up from Swedish Police

Swedish Police designated the 2014 Volvo XC70 D5 AWD as the best car in its fleet, with the wagon receiving an overall score of nine out of ten. The rating was awarded to the Volvo following exhaustive tests organized by the local police force. The Volvo XC70 D5 AWD scored ten out of ten in emergency driving, and did well in noise, comfort, stability, elk and braking tests, as well as in evasive maneuvers.

The updated 2014 XC70 D5 AWD police car features an updated chassis that includes new anti-roll bars, shock absorbers and springs. In order to fit the requirements of a police car, the XC70 is developed in cooperation with the Swedish Police. It can be sold either as a fully-equipped police car or as a base car with only a specially developed chassis.

Volvo sells 500-600 police cars every year, 90 percent of which remain in Sweden. However, Volvo also sells patrol cars in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The company wants to double sales numbers in the coming years.

“We are in discussions with at least a dozen different police forces around the globe: seven in Europe, two in the Americas and three in Asia. And we are determined to add more to that list,” says Ulf Rydne, Business Manager Commercial Vehicles at Volvo Car Special Vehicles and Accessories.

Production for the 2014 model year with the new chassis will begin in late November, with first deliveries scheduled for the start of next year.

Eleven Bikers Indicted in New York Range Rover Incident; One Is An Undercover Cop

It was probably hard to miss one of the posts we made about the NY incident involving a group/gang of bikers and the driver of a black Range Rover who, at the time, was traveling with his family in the car. The bikers proceeded to chase the man, who even ran one of their own down in an attempt to escape the angry mob.

PIX11 now tells us that the case has moved on, and this past Friday, the Manhattan DA’s Office announced a fourteen-count indictment for the 11 bikers that actively participated in showing violence towards the SUV (and its occupants).

The article also brings to focus the fact that an NYPD undercover officer, 32-year-old Wojciech Braszczok, also took part in the altercation – he now faces accusations of first degree assault, rioting and coercion. Apparently, if he is found guilty and convicted, he could be looking at spending up to twenty-five years in jail.

Finally, there is word of an unreleased video that may soon become available, one that would apparently clear one of the accused, Allen Edwards. He is allegedly the one banging on the Range’s rear side window, though both he and his attorney are apparently stating that the exact opposite happened, and he was actually trying to get the others to stop what they were doing.

This doesn’t sound like it’s anywhere near over to us. We will report as information surfaces.

Posh California Town Wants Tesla Model S Police Cars Patroling Its Streets

Have you ever thought about what a Tesla Model S police car would be like, all dressed in police livery, with part of the 17-inch touchscreen obscured by a rack holding two shotguns? It would definitely be a cool sight, as well as theoretically being a very effective chase vehicle with the kind of performance we know it’s capable of.

MotorAuthority reports that the manager of the tiny yet posh Silicon Valley town of Atherton, Mr. George Rodericks, recently stated that he’d seriously “love to see” these fast EVs used for the local police duty, in an interview for the San Jose Mercury News. If this strikes you as a bit odd, then we need only mention the fact that the average house value there is $6.7 million, and it’s a place where the Model S is a common sight.

Apparently, there’s data to show that the all-electric sedan has a 15 percent market share of new cars sold in the town… This is partly down to the inhabitants being wealthy, but also the local pride associated with the cars being developed and built in California.

Regardless of the mushy substrate, it would be cool if this idea went through and turned real, and there are many qualities that the Model S has that would make it suitable for police duty

This is the Aftermath of a Dutch Police Versus Classic Pontiac Firebird Chase

The Dutch police from the eastern Gelderland region had an unusual chase on their hands recently. Using various VW squad cars, including a Touran MPV and a Polo, they chased down and stopped a reckless driver at the wheel of a first-gen classic (1967-1969) Pontiac Firebird convertible.

Ramming was apparently law enforcement’s response, of course, and the Firebird was finally made to beach itself on a patch of grass, pinned between two cop cars. All vehicles involved suffered some kind of damage, but nothing too severe, because no matter what the driver did and why he was running, he was at the wheel of a very cool classic indeed.

He’s now behind bars awaiting prosecution.

Had this same chase taken place in Russia, we would have had it featured from at least two different angles – the Dutch use dash-mounted cameras too, but there aren’t enough of them cover all the interesting stuff that goes on around its network of roads. As it is now, there are two videos available, as well as a selection of photos courtesy of GinoPress, all showing the aftermath.

Brabus Surprises Dubai Police with B63S-700 Widestar

Brabus has dressed the B63S-700 Widestar in police livery for the Dubai International Motor Show 2013, with the project being part of the "Tune It! Safe!" project that has been promoting safe, responsible tuning in Germany since 2005.

The specially equipped Brabus B63S-700 Widestar that's based on the Mercedes G63 AMG will be given to the Dubai Police department.

The Brabus B63S-700 6x6 may have been more spectacular for the job, but the German aftermarket specialist chose the standard B63S Widestar. With 700 PS (690hp) produced by the 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine, the Brabus police car will surely be able to keep up with the supercars that are present on the Emirate’s roads. It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph).

The unusual police vehicle features 23-inch Brabus Platinum Edition monoblock forged wheels and the Brabus Dynamic Ride Control suspension with two settings (comfortable and sporty). It also sports the traditional green and white livery of the Dubai Police and signalling lights, as well as a series of tuning parts.

The Widestar package includes fender flares including door add-ons and LED side step illumination, while the front spoiler has underbody protection and LED daytime running lights. There’s also a Brabus roof spoiler including an additional brake light, entrance panels with illuminated Brabus logo for all 5 doors. Details include the Brabus door lock pins and aluminum pedal pads, as well as the black Brabus floor mats with leather edging.
